మంటల్లో దళిత బాలిక పై భిన్న కథనాలు

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 (Mathura, UP)
A six-year-old Dalit girl in Mathura is fighting for her life after she was burnt by an upper caste man on Tuesday evening. The provocation for this brutal attack was that the child was crossing an area dominated by upper caste villagers. The attacker, Sunny, ordered her to stay away from the area and later threw her into a pile of burning waste. She suffered 50 per cent burns.Sunny has been arrested but her family says action was taken only after senior police officers intervened.''My daughter was passing by the house of this man called Sunny. He warned her not to do that. When he tried to stop her, she got scared. He then set her on fire. I have filed an FIR,'' said Soudan, the father of the victim.Even the cops testify the statement of the victim's father.''When the girl and her mother were passing by Sunny's house, Sunny stopped her and threw her into a fire,'' said R K Chaturvedi, SSP, Mathura.

LUCKNOW: A day after a Dalit youth was set on fire in Etawah following a dispute over Rs 10, a six-year-old Dalit girl was thrown into fire by a person in Mathura on Wednesday. Her fault: She stepped on a walkway, the cause of dispute with the family of the accused. Both the victims are battling for life. Ironically, in both the cases, police's role has come as a huge embarrassment for senior officials who intervened to control the situation at both the places. Wednesday's incident was reported from Trauali Jhanauti village in Mathura. Saudan had a dispute with his neighbour Sunil alias Sunny over a passage which separated their houses. Sunil claimed the passage was his property while Sudan insisted that it was a gram sabha land. On Wednesday morning, when Saudan's wife Manju and six-year-old daughter Kamlesh were going to the field, they took the disputed passage. Sunny objected to this and before Manju could protest, he allegedly picked up Kamlesh and threw her into a garbage dump on fire. When Manju tried to save her daughter, Sunny allegedly attacked her as well. However, after Saudan came out of the house and raised an alarm, Sunny fled from the scene. Saudan's family said when he went to the local Chhata police station to lodge a complaint, he was shown the door by the police officer on duty. Saudan then rushed Kamlesh to a nearby hospital where doctors said she had sustained 80% burns. On Tuesday, 22-year-old Dalit Vinod Kumar Jatav was allegedly doused in petrol by a local shopkeeper Chunna Pandit at Chandanpurwa village in Etawah following a dispute over Rs 10. Vinod told the police that he went to buy petrol from Pandit's shop but found that the latter was not using a proper measure but an under one-litre bottle. Vinod insisted on paying only Rs 40 for the petrol but the trader demanded Rs 50. This led to an argument after which Chunna Pandit allegedly doused Vinod in petrol and set him ablaze.
In a shocking incident, a Dalit girl was thrown into a fire allegedly by an 18-year-old youth, who objected to her passing through a road next to his house in a hamlet, about 40 km from the temple town of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.
The six-year-old girl was pushed into hot ashes of burning refuse on Tuesday by accused Sunny following an altercation as she passed through the road along with her mother in Tarauli Janubi area, police sources said. The girl is in a critical condition in a hospital in Mathura with 50 per cent burns.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Mathura, R K Chaturvedi said the accused was arrested on Tuesday night on charges of attempt to murder and under sections 3 and 4 of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Protection of Civil Rights) Act.
"We are thinking of taking more serious action against the accused under the Gangsters Act.We want a message to go so that nobody does such a thing in future," he said, but denied that the road was meant for only upper caste people.
"It is wrong. It is a general road and everybody was moving on it. There were so many women and children going through that road. The road was never obstructed by people and it was an act of an individual," he said.
The arrested youth, however, told the police that he had not pushed the girl into the hot ashes and that it was an 'accident'.
Giving details about the incident, Chaturvedi said: "Basically, it is an act of an individual. There is no previous history or any background of enmity."
According to the girl's father, Soudan, "My daughter was passing by the youth's house. He objected to her doing so. When he tried to stop her, she got scared. He then pushed her into the fire."

LUCKNOW: A six-year-old Dalit girl suffered serious burns when a youth belonging to an upper caste threw her into a garbage dump fire at Karoli village in Mathura district late on Tuesday.
The youth, identified as 16-year-old Sunny, son of Ashok Thakur, was arrested by the Chata police and a case registered under the Scheduled Castes/Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
A Home Department spokesman said here on Wednesday that the girl had been admitted to a local hospital.
At Chandanpurwa village in Etawah district, a 22-year-old Dalit youth was set afire on Monday by a shopkeeper, Chunna Pandit, over the payment of a sum of Rs. 10.
The youth, who suffered 70 per cent burns, is now in hospital.
LUCKNOW: A Dalit, bedecked in diamonds from head to toe, is the chief minister of the state. Nevertheless, atrocities against the lower castes continue unabated in Uttar Pradesh.
But even as officials of the Mayawati regime try to dismiss every incident as “routine”, sources tell DNA they have shaken up the top echelons of the government.
The latest in a series of horrific events came on Tuesday. Kamlesh (6), a Dalit girl of Karauli Jununi village under Chhata police station of Mathura had gone to the fields in the morning to relieve herself. But she happened to use the private road adjoining the house of one Ashok Singh. His son Shani shouted at her for the ‘indiscretion’ and then pushed her into a fire burning nearby.
Kamlesh suffered severe burns and is battling for life in a Mathura hospital where her parents, Manju and Saudan, rushed her. Saudan told reporters that the Chhata police refused to register an FIR against the upper caste accused.
The area falls in the assembly constituency of Chaudhry Laxmi Narain, a minister in the Mayawati government. Mathura SSP RK Chaturvedi told reporters the girl fell into the fire “by accident”. However, with news of the incident reaching Lucknow, Shani has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder.
“Atrocities against Dalits have reached a record high,” said UP Congress spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh. He said the trend started after the Mayawati government itself “diluted” the enforcement of the Dalit Atrocities (Prevention) Act to keep the upper castes, especially Brahmins, in good humour. “Mayawati is more worried about her Brahmin votebank than the welfare of the Dalits,” he sneered.
The government had put out a circular aimed at “preventing misuse of the Act”, admits a senior home department official. But the move has weakened Dalits’ rights to sue the upper castes in cases of casteist discrimination and violence aimed at them.
BSP state president Swami Prasad Maurya refuted the charges. “Some sections of the media highlight these cases to taint our government’s reputation as the saviour of Dalits,” he said.
UP Police chief Vikram Singh also denied any sudden spiral in the cases of Dalit atrocities.
But National SC/ST Commission chairman Buta Singh recently rapped the Mayawati government for its poor track record in protecting Dalits’ rights and dignity. That is definitely not good news for Mayawati, bracing up for a tough Lok Sabha electoral battle ahead

Hi.. If the story is true i.e. An upper caste guy pushed a girl for passing on a upper caste dominated street, we shall hang him in public. Also make sure that, the individual act was not hijacked by caste, if the person does not even know that the girl is from a lower caste we shall re think. ..
